Completing residency at Lurie was an amazing experience. I loved having the privilege of serving a diverse patient population from communities all across the city, the state, the Midwest, and the world. The culture at Lurie is collegial, collaborative, and innovative. I not only grew as a pediatrician, but also as an educator and leader. Now, my co-residents have become some of my closest friends and I have learned so much from each of them. I could not have picked a better place to complete my pediatric residency!

I love Lurie for the incredible relationships I've built with so many people, from co-residents and attendings to program administration and other hospital employees. This sense of community makes every day fulfilling. The training I’ve received here has been exceptional, allowing me to care for pediatric patients from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of medical conditions and varying acuity levels. My experiences at Lurie have truly shaped me into a well-rounded pediatrician, and I am grateful for the support and opportunities that have enriched my journey.

What makes Lurie’s residency program standout to you?

At Lurie, we take care of all types of patients, ranging from common pediatric cases to extremely complex patients with interesting pathophysiology. To complement this, our culture is extremely friendly and collegial, creating a great environment to learn about these conditions.

What do you love about Lurie?

The easy answer is the people as this is what truly makes Lurie special. In addition, I love the diverse patient population we serve. Whether in continuity clinic or on the floor, our patients come from various backgrounds. Being from Puerto Rico, I particularly enjoy caring for Spanish-speaking patients and their families, who make up approximately a quarter of our patient population.

Why did you choose Lurie's residency program?

I know it might sound cliché, but I came to Lurie for the people. Following my interview and experiencing the community firsthand, it became clear that everyone involved in the program wholeheartedly supports each other. At Lurie, I received the essential training I needed alongside individuals genuinely invested in my career development. My co-residents (including my amazing co-chiefs) have become some of my closest friends. The faculty and staff consistently demonstrate eagerness to teach and support us. I often reflect on the fact that we spend so much time together in the hospital, yet willingly choose to spend our free time with each other. It truly feels like a family!
